The Farm Credit Illinois Lawrenceville and Mt. Vernon regional offices recently made investments in local youth programs. The donations are part of the financial cooperative’s ongoing support of rural communities and agriculture. In 2016, FCI invested more than $245,000 in youth, community, and ag literacy initiatives throughout its 60-county marketplace.
The Lawrenceville regional office recently made a $2,000 investment in Gaitway to Motion and matched a state grant in the amount of $1,018 for the Lawrence County Ag in the Classroom program.
Gaitway to Motion allows children with special needs to go horseback riding for fun at no charge to the family. The volunteer-run organization has grown from four riders and one horse in 2010 to 23 riders and five horses today. FCI’s donation will go towards saddles and an aluminum ramp to assist the children in getting on and off the horses.
The matched state grant of $1,018 will provide ag-related books for the Lawrence County Ag in the Classroom program.
The Mt. Vernon regional office made a $500 investment in Hamilton County University of Illinois Extension and donated five ceiling fans for the 4-H Barn at the Hamilton County fairgrounds. The funds will support 4-H programs in Hamilton County and fans will provide relief during the livestock show. The Mt. Vernon regional office also contributed $500 to the Edwards, Franklin, and Perry and Jackson Extension offices to support 4-H initiatives.
